Donut Apples

A quick and easy favorite of FoodPrints teachers, this snack allows kids to customize no-bake “donuts” with nutritious spreads and toppings

Ingredients:

3 apples

1 lemon OR orange

Spreads:

Greek yogurt

Sunflower seed butter OR nut butter

Toppings:

Homemade Granola, sunflower seeds, chopped nuts, hemp hearts, coconut flakes, fresh or frozen berries, dried fruit, ground cinnamon, honey, chocolate chips

Equipment:

Kitchen knife

Cutting board

Juicer OR fork

Apple corer OR cookie cutter

Medium bowl

Large plate OR baking sheet

Spoons

Ingredients:

3 apples

Directions:

  1. Gather all the ingredients and equipment. Wash the produce and prepare it as detailed in the ingredients list.
  2. Carefully slice the apples horizontally into ½ inch rounds.
  3. Use an apple corer to remove the center of the rounds and turn the slices into thick rings like a donut.
  4. Toss the apple slices in a bowl with lemon juice to prevent them from turning brown.
  5. Arrange the apple slices on a large plate and add the spreads of your choice to “ice” each slice.
  6. Sprinkle or drizzle your favorite toppings on top and enjoy!
