Breadcoin Foundation and FRESHFARM share a mission to reduce food insecurity and improve food access. By bringing Breadcoin redemption to FRESHFARM farmers markets and farm stands, we’re expanding food access programming for both organizations and bringing additional revenue to prepared food businesses in our network.
About Breadcoin
Breadcoin Foundation is a Washington, DC–based nonprofit working to reduce food insecurity, improve food access, and close the meal gap for those experiencing hunger. Breadcoin provides community members with physical tokens called Breadcoins valued at $3.00 each. Participating food businesses accept the tokens and are fully reimbursed for every Breadcoin redeemed. Trusted leaders and organizations share Breadcoins with families and individuals battling hunger, whether or not they qualify for federal food benefits.
How It Works at FRESHFARM Locations
Receive: Breadcoins are distributed by trusted community leaders and partner organizations throughout the DC region.
Redeem: Bring your Breadcoins to a participating prepared food producer at a select FRESHFARM market or farm stand.
Enjoy: Exchange tokens for a fresh, prepared meal. No ID, application, or proof of benefits eligibility required.
Participating FRESHFARM Locations
Beginning July 8, 2026, Breadcoin will be redeemable with vendors who offer prepared food at the following FRESHFARM farmers markets and farm stands:
Columbia Heights Market (Wednesday and Saturday)
Uptown Market (Saturday)
Downtown Silver Spring Market (Saturday)
Union Market District (Sunday)
Minnesota Ave Farm Stand and Friends events (last Thursday of each month)
Our long-term goal is to bring Breadcoin to even more FRESHFARM markets, with Dupont Circle slated for later this fall.
