Virginia Senior FMNP FAQs

Healthy Together is a public health technology company that operates a smartphone-based app. Through this app, community members can apply for and (if approved) shop with their Senior FMNP benefit. This is a digital food access tool that will improve accessibility of Senior FMNP by increasing preferred language capacity, improving communications to participants, and making it easier to purchase fresh produce from local farmers.

Healthy Together also improves access to sales tracking and reimbursements for farmers and producers. Using this app helps us all to support our local agricultural economy!

Applicants that apply on a web browser will receive a link to download the smartphone app when the application is approved.

Apply online or download the Healthy Together app and apply through the app on your smartphone.

Please complete ONE (1) APPLICATION PER PERSON. You should identify in the application if there is one (1) eligible person or two (2) eligible persons.

Duplicates will slow down your application process. Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment into the program.

Yes, please submit one application per person and identify yourself a one (1) household. Applicants should input each individual’s specific monthly income, not the household’s monthly combined income.

Avoid submitting duplicate applications (i.e., multiple applications for one individual).

Applications will be accepted from June 1 through September 30, 2025. Applications are reviewed and approved on a rolling basis. The sooner you submit your application the better.

Applicants can expect to receive a status update within 1-2 weeks. Please note that this is an estimated timeframe and your actual notification may take less or more time. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

Regardless of how you apply (Healthy Together app, online, over the phone), everyone will receive a message through email and/or text on the outcome of their application.

Your electronic benefits card will be mailed to you within 10-15 days of your being notified of your approval. Your mailing will include the physical benefit card, instructions on how to use the card, and additional food access information.

The Healthy Together app will prompt you to enter your associated email or phone number. Check your phone or email (depending on which you use) for the one-time passcode. Then copy-paste or retype that passcode into the Healthy Together app.

Each approved participant receives a one-time fund of $50 loaded to the Healthy Together app which can be spent with the QR code in the app or using the physical benefit card.

For either the card or the app, you must open your Healthy Together app on your smartphone. Once open, select your benefit: “Virginia Senior FMF” and click “View My Benefits” to see your card.

Tap on that image of the card, and the card will expand to show your digital benefit card, current remaining balance, and a list of transactions.

Check out the Locations page to see the list of participating farmers at local farmers markets. Enrolled participants can also visit the “Find a Market” feature on the Healthy Together app, or visit vafma.org/virginia-markets and use the filters below the map to click “Programs” and select “Senior FMNP.”

Enrolled participants can spend their vouchers on fresh fruits, fresh vegetables, and fresh-cut herbs. Click here for eligible foods or find this on the Healthy Together app under “Resources.”

Your four-digit PIN is automatically set to your Birth Year.

Your Senior FMNP benefit will expire on December 1st. This means the last day you can use your benefit for shopping will be on November 30th.

Physical cards can only be provided once a year. To print a temporary replacement card, please use the mobile app or email va-senior@freshfarm.org for support.

An official replacement card can be provided next year if you apply again and are once again approved for the program.

YES! Please keep your card. You will be able to reuse it next year. To participate again next year, you will need to re-apply for the program.

Yes! You should have listed in your application the name of the person that would do your shopping for you. If you didn’t do that, you can email va-senior@freshfarm.org or text 1-833-412-4863 to name the person who will do your shopping for you.

Look for farmers displaying the Farm Market Fresh authorized farmer poster.

 

Only Virginia residents 60 years of age or older AND who meet the monthly income limits are eligible to be enrolled. (Your identified income should NOT include the income of your adult children.)

Each county receives a limited number of enrollment slots which are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. This means the program may hit its maximum participant limit even though there are more residents who could use and would qualify for the program.
