Everyone should have access to fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. With FreshMatch, if you spend SNAP/EBT and FMNP benefits at eligible markets, you’ll receive matching coupons or tokens for more fresh local fruits and vegetables.

Using FreshMatch at all FRESHFARM (VA, DC, MD) and Eligible Partner Markets (DC)
When using SNAP/EBT:
- Go to the orange Market Info Tent and tell the staff you want to spend your SNAP/EBT.
- Hand your SNAP/EBT card to staff or enter your card number and select the amount you’d like to spend, using your PIN.
- Receive purple SNAP/EBT coupons and a dollar-for-dollar match of white FreshMatch coupons up to $30 of your total purchase (limit per day/per household).
- Shop for fruits and vegetables with your SNAP/EBT and FreshMatch coupons. Check with market staff to understand what foods are eligible.
When using FMNP:
- Spend your FMNP checks or electronic benefits with eligible farmers. Get a receipt for your purchase.
- Take your receipt to the Market Info Tent.
- Exchange the receipt at the Info Tent for red FreshMatch coupons for up to $10 of your total purchase (limit per day/per household).
- Shop for fruits and vegetables at market with your FreshMatch coupons. Check with the individual market to confirm they offer FMNP matching; not all markets offer this program.
Using FreshMatch at Eligible Partner Markets (VA)
When using SNAP/EBT:
- Locate the Market Info Tent and tell the staff you want to spend your SNAP/EBT.
- Hand your SNAP/EBT card to staff or enter your card number and select the amount you’d like to spend, using your PIN.
- Receive purple SNAP/EBT coupons and a dollar-for-dollar match of white FreshMatch coupons up to $30 of your total purchase (limit per day/per household). These tokens can only be spent at the market at which they are received.
- Shop for SNAP-eligible goods at market with your SNAP tokens and for fruits and vegetables with FreshMatch tokens!
When using FMNP:
Not all farmers markets and farm stands offer an FMNP matching program in Virginia. This type of match is up to the individual market’s program capacity and funding. FMNP matching at FRESHFARM markets can only be received and spent at FRESHFARM farmers markets and farm stands. Also note that, due to state regulations, only VA-based farmers can be approved to accept VA SFMNP benefits.
Please check with staff at each Market Info Tent to check if they offer an FMNP matching program.
