FRESHFARM Penn Quarter Market Closing

Apr. 26, 2024
A busy day at the FRESHFARM Penn Quarter Market

It is with deep regret that we share that the FRESHFARM Penn Quarter Market will not open for the 2024 season or the foreseeable future. This decision was not made lightly and comes after extensive efforts to sustain and revitalize one of the District’s most historically significant farmers markets.

FRESHFARM remains steadfast in our mission of building a strong and resilient Mid-Atlantic food system. As the Penn Quarter Market sales have steadily decreased for three consecutive years, we have decided to reallocate our time, talents, and resources to where we can make the biggest impact. We had hoped the recent focus to revitalize downtown Washington, DC would keep the market operational. Unfortunately, the required support has not materialized.

We are very disheartened to share this news. We deeply cherish the Penn Quarter Market community and have immense gratitude for the farmers, producers, and longtime shoppers at the heart of the market, including many of the biggest movers and shakers in the Washington, DC restaurant community who have been supporters from day one.
