Ingredients:
2 baguettes
4-6 cloves garlic, peeled and minced
1½ cups fresh parsley leaves, minced
½ cup mixed fresh herbs (any combination of rosemary, oregano, sage, basil, cilantro), minced
8 tbsp. (½ cup) butter, softened to room temperature OR 8 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
Equipment:
Oven
Kitchen knife
Cutting board
Medium bowl
Aluminum foil
Potholders
Directions:
- Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Split then baguettes in half lengthwise.
- Wash the garlic cloves, parsley, and other fresh herbs. Then peel and finely mince them as noted in the ingredients list.
- In a medium bowl, combine the butter, garlic, and herbs. Mash the garlic and herbs into the butter by hand or with a fork.
- Spread the garlic-herb butter evenly onto the insides of the baguettes. Wrap in aluminum foil and ask for an adult’s help to place in the preheated oven.
- Bake until heated through, about 15-20 minutes. Then carefully remove from the oven and let cool slightly before slicing into servings.
Note: The garlic-herb butter spread is also delicious on regular toast, or you can put a pat on top of cooked rice, chicken, or fish.
