Celebrating 20 Years of FRESHFARM FoodPrints: Washington, DC’s Leading School-Based Food Education Program
Media invited for special gathering of flagship food and garden education program
WHAT: FRESHFARM and DC Public Schools (DCPS) will host media at a special celebratory gathering marking 20 years of FoodPrints — FRESHFARM’s flagship food and garden education program that has helped a generation of DC students build life-long connections to fresh, local, healthy food and the environment — and the long-standing partnership that has made this model of embedding food education in schools successful.
This event offers the opportunity to hear from program founders, educators, community leaders, and award recipients about the program’s impact, partnership model, and the role food education plays in student health, environmental literacy, and the regional food system. FoodPrints has grown into one of the most sought-after and impactful food education programs in the District and is emerging as a national model for integrating cooking, gardening, and food literacy into public schools.
Over the past two decades, FoodPrints has partnered with DCPS, expanding its reach within the District to 20 elementary schools and bringing its approach to healthy cooking and eating to hundreds of DCPS families.
Media will have the opportunity to observe the same hands-on learning experiences that students participate in throughout the school year, and sample some of the tasty produce-forward recipes that students cook in FoodPrints classes. Activities will include making seed packets, rolling oats for overnight oatmeal, and tasting FoodPrints recipes.
